ChatGPT is not a single model. Behind the same product sits a family of models at different depths, and a model picker in the composer lets you choose between them. The options run as an effort ladder: Instant for quick asks, then Medium, High, and Extra High for harder reasoning, with Pro Standard and Pro Extended on Pro plans.

Roughly, the family splits into three weights: a heaviest model built for hard reasoning and code, a balanced middle model for everyday work, and a fast, cheap model built for quick, high-volume asks.
