The Cited Answer

Perplexity is an AI answer engine. You type a question, it searches the live web, and it writes you a short answer in plain sentences. So far that sounds like any chatbot. The difference is what sits next to the words.

Each load-bearing claim in the answer carries a citation, shown as a small numbered marker right where the claim is made. Click the marker and you land on the source page it came from. The answer is not floating on its own. It comes with a trail you can follow.

That trail is the product. A plain chatbot asks you to trust it. Perplexity hands you the answer and the evidence in the same breath, so you can check the work.
