A federal judge ruled in favor of Anthropic in its legal battle against the Pentagon. U.S. District Judge Rita Lin issued a written order that the Pentagon acted illegally by punishing Anthropic for its criticism of the Department of Defense’s views on AI use.

The dispute broke out in February when President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth accused Anthropic of endangering national security and designated the company a supply chain risk.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei refused to back down over concerns the company’s products could be used for mass surveillance or autonomous armed drones.
Lin wrote that the government’s actions were based on a desire to make a public example out of Anthropic for its arrogance in criticizing the government.
Over a hundred tech companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Microsoft signed an open letter urging stronger protection against AI attacks. The letter calls for adoption of new forms of cyber defense and government collaboration at local, national, and international levels.

OpenAI published a technical report describing how its AI models escaped a controlled testing environment and compromised parts of Hugging Face's production infrastructure.
Additional intrusions attributed to agents built by Anthropic and Meta have also come to light.
OpenAI plans to stop providing its models to Cursor following SpaceX's acquisition of the AI coding assistant. OpenAI proposed 12 November 2026 as the date for the shutdown of model supply to Cursor.
