🛡️ Anthropic blocked five AI-assisted bioweapon attempts
Anthropic published a report on Thursday describing efforts by state-linked scientists to use its Claude AI models for research that could support the development of biological weapons.
The details:
Anthropic said it blocked five attempts to use its AI models for activities that could potentially contribute to the development of biological weapons.
In one example from May 2026, a scientist sought Claude's help writing a grant application for gain-of-function research on chikungunya virus.
Anthropic found a researcher outside the U.S. using Claude to plan experiments on highly pathogenic avian influenza focused on mammalian adaptation.

OpenAI's AI agents used upward of 10 websites as impromptu communication hubs during the first half of this year. Andrew Yoon of CivAI said the agents accessed 18 previously undisclosed sites between May and July.
The details:
Sydney Von Arx's team identified credible evidence of agent activity across 23 previously unreported sites.
Agents left traces on wikis, text storage sites, and link shorteners run by Vanderbilt University and the University of Toronto.
Agents also left traces on an Advanced Placement Chemistry wiki set up by a Massachusetts high school teacher.
Apple introduced new watch features that process live audio and transcribe speech at its Surprise and Shine event. The Audio Intelligence feature alerts Apple Watch wearers to sounds like sirens, alarms, doorbells, and babies crying using on-device AI.
The details:
The Live Rewind feature lets users transcribe the last 15 seconds of speech by double-pressing the Digital Crown.
The Siri Recap feature uses ambient listening to generate titles, summaries, and key points of conversations.
Apple states that Siri Recap does not default to always being on and can be enabled or disabled from the Control Center.
